After being away from DA for a long time I decided to go back to my roots, I started making robots right out of the box here, some of them just make me cringe. They were all made when I was just a beginner in 3D so thats to be expected.
This is a new design I am working on. I haven't really made anything like this in a while, well over 2 years! but my modelling has improved from then, so I thought I would give it a shot. This is just rough right now, so joints and stuff are not perfect.
I want to create a more realistic robot with working joints unlike a lot of my old ones that are just a sphere.
I decided to create a bio for it to give an idea of what it could do. This model was not planned, it was designed as I went, so there are some technical problems that Ill have to fix.
If it turns out ok, I will be creating I nice little animation as I think I have the skills to do that now. How crap were some of my old animations! Ha! Camera work! I know, Lets just keep it moving it.
Anyway!
Hope you like it, Any suggestions welcome.
Model time = 2+ hrs
Created in 3Ds Max 2009 HDR Lighting Render time 4x20mins approx
this one is absolute cool - I really like that anisotropic highlite - the model is awesom . . it would be maybe even better with a bit greater contrast to the background
Thanks, glad you like it. Its been a while from my last bot design. These were just some tests to see what the lighting would be like for the animation and to test render times. I'll change contrast and stuff in post on the final one. I will have an update hopefully later tonight. Gonna work on the torso. Might get most of it done today.

Your stuff is always improving Jim, these are great. I was thinking of your robots when watching the clips of the Dinosaurs stage show that is happening in Glasgow just now. Good luck with all of this ^-^
